Thank You Card Messages: What to Write for Every Occasion

Sitting down to write thank you cards should feel easy. Often it does not. You know you are grateful, but turning that feeling into actual words is harder than it looks. These messages cover the occasions where thank you cards get sent most often: baby showers, birthday gifts, and big life milestones. Copy the one that fits, add a name, and send it.

Baby Shower Thank Yous

A baby shower thank you card has two jobs: acknowledge the specific gift and make the giver feel like they got it exactly right.

For a practical gift (diapers, wipes, gift cards):

For a clothing or toy gift:

For a toy or game (note from a child):

3 Tips for Thank You Cards That Actually Land

Be specific. "Thank you for the gift" does not land the same way as "Thank you for the cashmere blanket." One sentence naming the actual thing transforms a generic note into a real one.

Write fast. A thank you sent the week after the event is ten times better than one sent a month later. Set a reminder for the day after and write them all in one sitting.

Skip the apology if it is late. If yours is overdue, just send the genuine note. The apology draws attention to the delay; the gratitude is what matters.
